B.C.’s Wavefront partners with Hong Kong Wireless Development Centre

Organizations make announcement at Wavefront facility opening in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, BC and HONG KONG - September 15, 2009 - Wavefront, the community-based commercialization centre for B.C.'s 1,000 wireless and new media development companies, and the Hong Kong Wireless Development Centre (HKWDC), a flagship project to promote awareness, development and usage of wireless application technology in Hong Kong, have announced an agreement to work together to create mutually beneficial opportunities for their members.

During an event celebrating the opening of Wavefront’s new 7,000-square-foot wireless facility in Vancouver on August 18, B.C. Minister of Small Business, Technology and Economic Development Iain Black made the announcement.

Wavefront and the HKWDC will each act as a bridge between members of the Vancouver and Hong Kong wireless industries to provide business matching, encourage strategic partnering opportunities, allow their members to use their facilities and services at equivalent rates, and promote their services and facilities to one another’s members.

Both HKWDC and Wavefront provide end-to-end infrastructural support to mobile and wireless application developers including facilities where developers can develop and test their applications across different network operators and devices, significantly reducing their costs and development time.

“Hong Kong is internationally recognized as a major telecommunications center in its own right,” said Wavefront President James Maynard, “and this relationship with the Hong Kong Wireless Development Center is very beneficial to Wavefront community members seeking access to Chinese markets.”

“Vancouver and Wavefront are strategically located in close proximity to North America’s leading wireless companies, which benefits our members. We look forward to this partnership and working with Wavefront to help our member companies expand commercially into the North American market.” said John Chiu, Honorary Chairman of the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association which founded HKWDC.
